Untitled (duration)
The composition is based on the continuous repetition of the noun trwanie (“duration”) in successive lines without spaces; at the end of each line the word is interrupted by the right edge of the board and continues from the next letter in the line below. This visualisation of the concept of “duration,” further reinforced by the mechanical cutting of lines at the upper and lower edges of the page or board, suggests their extension into infinity; however, it is an infinity without reference to past or future, since the lack of imagined continuation on the left and right closes the text in on itself. Central to the concept is a reflection on the meaning of “continuation” expressed by the noun in a timeless sense. The work has been presented in rectangular or square formats as a typescript on paper, a board handwritten on Bristol board, and prints on paper mounted on a rigid support.
