Works and documentation in collections (selection)

Stanisław Dróżdż’s works pose specific challenges for collectors because, as works of concrete poetry, they possess a material dimension and not merely an intellectual one, as in the case of traditional poetry. Much more important than in “ordinary” poems – indeed inseparable from them – is the visual recording of the text, which is sometimes radically reduced: often to a single word, and at times even to a question mark, exclamation mark, full stop or comma. The same work may function within exhibition space in different display versions: as an enlarged photograph of a typescript, a board with text handwritten on Bristol board, a PVC or aluminium panel with text designed and printed digitally, or a version composed of foil letters affixed directly to the wall. In the latter case, the work in its material form effectively ceases to exist once the exhibition has ended. Various exhibition forms from different years have nevertheless been preserved in diverse technical versions. The same work, such as Hourglass or the frequently exhibited spatial work between, may exist in several sizes and in different collections.
