Description

The work is a triptych containing the words początek (“beginning”) and koniec (“end”), fragmented and joined together. The concept was inspired by the observation that the first letter of the word koniec is also the final letter of the word początek. In the central panel, both words are connected through this shared letter into a single form. The left panel contains the word początek divided into two parts: the second part touches the left edge of the panel and the first part the right edge. The right panel contains the word koniec likewise divided into two parts: the second part touches the left edge and the first part the right edge. The work addresses the recurring theme of beginning and end in Dróżdż’s practice, conceived in spatial and temporal terms. The key issue in the concept is the elusive boundary between the end of the beginning and the beginning of the end. The work has been presented in two versions: black letters on a white background and white letters on a black background. It has been produced as a drawing on paper, letters cut from foil on paper and aluminium, and as a large-format digital print on canvas (banner).
