Description

A visualisation of the concept of “antipodes,” referring to the two opposite poles of the globe. The work is based on a 180-degree rotation of the text combined with the suggestion of a mirror image. The word “antipodes” is divided into two parts: “anti” and “podes”; the first is placed above a horizontal line, while the second appears below it, written upside down. The arrangement is repeated under a longer horizontal line, where “anti” and “podes” exchange positions. The concept visualises the effort of imagination attempting to grasp the existence of two hemispheres of the Earth without recourse to the categories of “top” and “bottom.” The work has been executed as a digital print on paper mounted on a rigid support.
