Semiotic situation
The work consists of nine square boards. The first is entirely white; the subsequent boards introduce horizontal and vertical lines that intersect on the fourth board. The fifth and sixth introduce diagonal lines, which also intersect. On the eighth board both sets of crosses overlap, densifying the drawing on the white field, which becomes completely black on the ninth board. The work poses a question frequently addressed by Dróżdż: where does the boundary between opposing states lie? At what point does white, gradually filled with black elements, cease to be white and becomes black? The opposition between black and white may also be read metaphorically, given their rich symbolic associations. The work has been executed as a digital print on paper mounted on a rigid support.
