and (fragments)
Another work by Dróżdż employing parts of speech such as pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions. The multiplied conjunction i (“and”) functions as the equivalent of endless addition – it visualises a mathematical operation which, when written with numbers and symbols, does not stimulate the imagination as strongly as the use of a conjunction. In the original version, the repeatedly multiplied conjunction filled a square board to all edges; the letters, written in successive lines, were separated by spaces, beneath which the letters forming the next line were inscribed (with the lines alternately shifted to the right and left). The addition (fragments) was introduced in the expanded, multi-board version created in 1997, in which the multiplied conjunction formed complex geometric figures. A third version, based on the multi-panel concept, was produced in large format as digital prints on foil mounted on a wall (Sektor I, Katowice, 2005), and another in 2009 as a digital print on a canvas banner (National Museum in Wrocław). A version of the work also exists in the form of sheets of paper bound in a folder.
