Words, sentences / digits, numbers – mutual interpenetration

Another work addressing the relationship between a number and its verbal designation, as in Articulations (1979). It takes the form of computer printouts containing successive quantities of words expressed verbally (e.g. “three thousand six hundred words”). These expressions were arranged in separate lines forming long columns extending across the full height and length of the walls of the exhibition hall at the Foksal Gallery, where the work was implemented. Of particular significance is the unique shape of each column, which points to the richness and flexibility of the Polish language in such a seemingly simple operation as determining the number of words.
