Untitled (two words)
A work related to word, similarly tautological and metalinguistic. It draws attention to a linguistic phenomenon that occurs only with the expressions “word” and “two words” – with a larger number of words (e.g. “three words”), tautology no longer operates. Dróżdż often stated that the more words there are, the more they “lie”, that is, they allow for ambiguous interpretation of meanings. In his concept-shapes, using a minimum of words – and sometimes only punctuation marks isolated from their linguistic context – he sought philosophical meanings embedded in the morphology of words and elementary syntax. The work has been presented as handwritten ink on Bristol board, letters cut from foil and mounted on a rigid support, and as a digital print on paper mounted on a rigid support.
