Untitled (Sequence)
The work consists of twelve square boards densely filled with digits arranged in lines. On eleven boards, at least one position remains empty instead of a digit, which causes the board to be perceived no longer as a unified image but as a sequence of numbers with a beginning and an end. Here it is not a minimal sign such as a comma (Continuum) or a slash mark (inequality sign) that alters meaning, but an empty space that transforms the perception of the plane: instead of an image, one perceives a text (written in the language of mathematics). The left-to-right order of characters determines that the square filled with numbers is read as a text rather than a visual work. It is a self-referential work addressing the status of concrete poetry situated between literature and the visual arts. It has been executed as a digital print on a rigid support.
