Untitled (or)
A work composed of the multiplied word lub (“or”), placed at considerable intervals so as to fill the plane, with the extreme words cut off by its edges. It has been produced in several versions: as black foil letters applied directly to the wall, on billboards (AMS Outdoor Gallery, 2001), and on the façade of a building (Krystyna Bochenek Cultural Institution – Katowice City of Gardens, 2003; the work no longer exists). One of Dróżdż’s many metalinguistic works analysing the properties of linguistic systems – both verbal language and the language of mathematics. The visual similarity of the letter “u” in lub to the mathematical symbol for logical disjunction (“v”) is significant: not an exclusive alternative, but a proliferation of possible choices extending infinitely in space, which constitutes the conceptual core of the work.
