Untitled (micro – macro)
The work is based on the observation that the opposing concepts mikro (“micro”) and makro (“macro”) are expressed by words differing by only a single letter. It is another work that draws attention to the remarkable properties of verbal language, in which a minimal phonetic and orthographic difference may correspond to a vast semantic divergence. The work has been presented as a rectangular board with white capital letters on a black background. In the space following the initial letter “M” appeared fragments of the letters “I” and “A”; two versions were presented: one with “A” at the top and “I” at the bottom, and a reversed version. The work has been produced as a hand-painted ink drawing on Bristol board and as a digital print on paper mounted on a rigid support. In 1999 it was produced as a mural on the façade of a private house in Hünfeld, Germany, as part of Gerard Jürgen Blum-Kwiatkowski’s project Das offene Buch [The Open Book].
