Description

The work consists of the letters forming the word litery (“letters”), arranged on a square plane in such a way that each successive letter “jumps” downwards, moving from the left side of the square to the right and then in the opposite direction. The result is a dispersed configuration of the word that nevertheless remains easily legible. The work reflects on the specific property of the human mind that enables the reading of writing – the reconstruction of words from letters – even when they are scattered at a considerable distance and in different directions. This cognitive feature underlies the idea of concept-shapes, which give spatial form to the elements of verbal language. The work, based on tautology, is conceptually related to the spatial work between, which operates in a similar manner in three-dimensional space. It has been produced as a print on foil mounted on a rigid support.
