Description
A work composed of mathematical equality and inequality signs arranged in eight lines. In successive lines, the initial three equality signs are gradually replaced by inequality signs according to a combinatory rule that exhausts all possible mutual relations between the two signs within this arrangement. As in other works, the piece addresses the problem of a radical change in meaning brought about by a minimal sign element – as, for example, in Continuum. The work has been executed as handwriting in ink on Bristol board, as a photographic print and as foil mounted on a rigid support.
