Description

The work is composed of the letters OD repeated multiple times without spaces in lines filling the entire surface of the board, allowing the sequence to be read both as OD (“from”) and DO (“to”). As in the work duration, a sequence interrupted at the end of one line is continued in the next (if a line ends with the letter “O,” the first letter of the following line is “D,” and vice versa). The work visualises the concept of a temporal and spatial continuum – a theme explored in many other works by the artist in different formal variants. The single-board version constitutes the original version; approximately twenty-five years later (1993), a version consisting of a series of 82 boards was created, in which the letters O and D appear in different graphic forms, opening the work to further interpretations of the idea of continuum. The original version has been presented as a typescript, a photographic print and a board handwritten in ink on Bristol board. The multi-board version has been produced as a digital print on foil mounted on a rigid support. The work has also been presented as a mural in public space on the wall of a tenement house (Wrocław, 2016). A version in the form of loose sheets bound in a folder also exists.
