Description

The work consists of the words listed in the title, written repeatedly in lowercase letters at regular intervals on a square surface, forming several dozen lines; the outer lines are cut off by the edges of the board. The whole is composed of three such boards. It is a reflection on the syntax of the phrase “more or less the same,” in which words with opposite and mutually exclusive meanings produce a coherent sense denoting approximation. There is also a more elaborate nine-board version, in which individual boards form the words comprising the eponymous phrase: “less,” “more” and “the same.” This is another work analysing the structure of the language system, which, by means of remarkably simple procedures, allows for the creation of new meanings that are difficult to express literally. The work has been executed in the form of a computer printout.
