Description

The work consists of three square boards, each bearing the expression pół na pół (“half and half”) written four times. The first board is symmetrically divided by a horizontal line, the third by a vertical line, and the second by both lines. In the case of the two outer boards, their halves may be superimposed as mirror images; this is not possible in the middle board, where quarters are created and divided between the letters “n” and “a.” The concept is based on tautology, which breaks down when two mutually perpendicular axes of symmetry are superimposed. At the same time, another situation emerges that recalls the work on: when the word is cut vertically between the letters, they overlap along this axis, producing a new tautological effect. The work has been produced as a digital print on a rigid substrate.
