Energy exchange

The work consists of two parts, each composed of 64 small square boards arranged in eight rows of eight. In the first part, each “tile” shows a drawing of a thread rolled into a loose ball with two protruding ends; in subsequent tiles, one of the threads changes position through regular shifts, and after completing a cycle the system repeats with the second thread. The second part comprises tiles of the same size bearing short thread ends that change position according to the same system, as if representing the reverse side of the first set. This is another systemic work based on a principle of ordered, clockwise transformation, reflecting on the relation between cyclical and linear conceptions of time. It has been executed as a digital print on paper mounted on a rigid substrate and first shown at the artist’s solo exhibition at the Awangarda BWA Gallery in Wrocław (2000).
