Concrete poetry (strings)
Created for Stanisław Dróżdż’s solo exhibition at the Foksal Gallery in Warsaw (2002), this installation filled the entire exhibition hall, rendering it inaccessible to viewers. It was constructed from nylon strings stretched in straight lines in random directions between the walls, ceiling and floor, thus recalling the spatial concept of the work between (1977). A photograph of that earlier work, executed in the same room a quarter of a century before, was displayed in the corridor leading to the hall, emphasising the conceptual correspondence between the two works. The piece functioned as a kind of “negative” of between, visualising the mental process of connecting scattered elements. The title explicitly points to the essence of concrete poetry as the construction of new relations between linguistic elements removed from their usual system.
