Stanisław Dróżdż
Title
Case x
Dating
1970
Description

The work consists of a sequence of randomly selected digits; the sequence is “framed” by the edges of the board, suggesting that it constitutes only a fragment of a larger whole, possibly an unknown, vast number with an undeciphered beginning and end. The work incorporates recurring themes in Dróżdż’s oeuvre: infinity, beginning and end, the limits of human cognition, and the relationship between reality and the language used to describe it. It has been presented in rectangular or square formats, in several versions: as digits cut from foil and affixed to paper, and as a digital print on paper mounted on a rigid support.
