Description

The work consists of the words tak (“yes”) and nie (“no”) arranged in two triangular formations. On the right-hand side, across three lines, one letter of the word tak is added incrementally; on the left-hand side and below, across three lines, one letter of the word nie is successively removed. The composition causes the letters “t” and “i”, visually very similar, to align along one diagonal, while along the other diagonal similarly shaped letters “a” and “e” appear. The concept suggests that these two opposing notions differ only minimally in their spelling, which once again, in Dróżdż’s work, draws attention to the paradoxical possibilities of expressing concepts through writing. The work has been presented as a typescript (with the triangles of letters arranged in reversed right–left positions) and as a board with letters handwritten in ink on Bristol board.
